Applications are invited for a Master's course in Educational Research for entry in October 2009.
This MA in Educational Research is particularly suitable for students contemplating progression onto doctoral research, or a career involving research. We equip students with practical and theoretical knowledge and with skills and techniques, which will enable them to become competent, reflective and ethical researchers.
The course provides a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment which caters for students who aspire to a successful and productive learning experience. Small enough to benefit from individualised support, the course attracts students who are very positive and enthusiastic, and aim to carry out a worthwhile research project. The sessions are taught by a range of academics with strong research track records in the field.
The MA in Educational Research has been designed to fulfil research training requirements set out by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The School of Education is eligible for receipt of studentships from ESRC, and a number of University studentships for post-graduate research are available on an annual basis. Scholarships applications for 2009-2010 are now closed, however research scholarships and bursaries for progression onto PhD will become available in early 2010.

Entry Requirements: Applicants are expected to have at least a 2:1 degree from a U.K. university, or an overseas degree equivalent, in Education or a related social science discipline. English proficiency of a minimum of IELTS 6.5, or equivalent, is required for overseas students.

Call for Applications from Faculty in Selected Countries of Europe and Eurasia
The Ronald and Eileen Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia at the University of Michigan invites applications for Weiser Professional Development Awards from faculty and artists at institutions of higher education in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Russia (Kaliningrad District), Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Moldova, Slovakia, and Ukraine.
Applicants are invited to propose projects in any field of research or teaching with a faculty partner at the University of Michigan. Candidates must have excellent oral and written English language skills.
The awards support short-term (2-4 week) research visits to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and include round-trip airfare, housing, health insurance, and a modest per diem. Up to 10 awards will be granted for travel to Ann Arbor between January and April 2010 or September and December 2010.
Selection of awardees will be made through a competitive review of proposals at the University of Michigan. These awards are made possible thanks to a gift from Ambassador Ronald Weiser, U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia from 2001-04, and his wife, Eileen Lappin Weiser.

TRICUD is a multidisciplinary research programme launched by three research centres based at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies at the University of Liège, Centre for the Study of Public Opinion and Pôle Liégeois d’Etudes sur les Sociétés Urbaines en Développement.
The CEDEM carries out theoretical and empirical research in the field of human migration, ethnic relations and racism in a pluri-disciplinary perspective. The CLEO is a pluri-disciplinary research centre specialised in the study of behaviour, opinion and social representations as well as on the development of methodological tools for collecting and analysing data. PÔLE SUD is mainly oriented towards the study of urban dynamics in Southern development countries as well as on new forms of globalisation. The project is coordinated by CEDEM and is connected to the research activities it pursues within the EU funded network of excellence IMISCOE (International migration, Integration and Social Cohesion).

        Целью проекта является содействие развитию международного
молодежного сотрудничества на пространстве СНГ и усиление взаимодействия
между молодежными общественными организациями государств-участников СНГ.
        В процессе работы Форума предполагается консолидировать
участников в неформальное сообщество с целью установления контактов
между ними для информирования о деятельности молодежных общественных
организаций и проведения мероприятий, направленных на развитие
международного молодежного сотрудничества на пространстве СНГ.

U.S. Institute of Peace 2010-2011 Jennings Randolph Senior Fellowship Competition
 
The Jennings Randolph (JR) Program for International Peace awards approximately 12 residential Senior Fellowships each year to allow outstanding scholars, practitioners, policymakers, journalists, and other professionals the opportunity to conduct research on peace, conflict, and international security while taking advantage of their time in Washington D.C. to make connections with other scholars and practitioners both inside and outside USIP. These in-house fellowships normally last for ten months starting in October 2010. Fellowships are open to citizens of any country and include a stipend of up to $100,000. The application deadline is September 8th, 2009.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the CRRC Azerbaijan Program Manager, the Program Associate will assist the PM in the management of key CRRC Azerbaijan program activities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Program Manager in coordinating the CRRC Data Initiative; support the Program Manager in implementing the CRRC Fellowship Program and work in close collaboration with the Fellowship Selection Committee;

• Assist in maintaining and cultivating high quality relations with CRRC constituents and partner organizations;
• Work in coordination with the Program Manager and the Director with the CRRC Advisory Committee and other related ad-hoc advisory and selection committees where necessary;
• Research, collect, and upgrade external resources, survey materials and datasets;
• Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars and other events organized by partner organizations and key CRRC constituents as per the request of the Program Manager;

Call for Applications / Ausschreibung: "History Takes Place" 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

Since 2003 and at different central locations, the ZEIT-Stiftung has invited up to 20 young historians and scholars of cultural studies (primarily Ph.D. students) to attend academic seminars exploring the "spectrum of Central and Eastern Europe" (H. v. Keyserlingk) . These major sites and their regions are perceived as lieux de mémoire. Participants explore historical traces in local topographies, in architecture and monuments. The city itself is studied as a historical source - "History Takes Place".

From 7 to 18 September 2009 the Summer School "History Takes Place: European Memorial Sites" will be held in Warsaw. This year, Prof. Dr. Werner Benecke (European University Viadrina at Frankfurt/Oder) will serve as the academic director. The project will also be sponsored by the Gerda Henkel Stiftung and organised in cooperation with the German Historical Institute in Warsaw.

The deadline for applications is 18 June 2009.

The University of Leeds is pleased to announce two new PhD studentships for 2009-2010.
STUDENTSHIP INFORMATION
The studentships are tenable for 3yr (f-t) or 5yr (p-t) from September/October 2009. The tuition component will be equivalent to the full EU PhD fee (currently £3.4k p.a. f-t) and the maintenance component will be equivalent to that of the AHRC Doctoral award (2008/09 £12.6k  p.a. F-t). In addition, the IDEA CETL offers its PhD students financial support for conference attendance, and PhD students are often given the opportunity to undertake teaching paid at an hourly rate.
The successful applicant will undertake a PhD project in the area of (Inter-Disciplinary ) Applied Ethics broadly construed. The IDEA CETL currently works in  Medical Ethics, Engineering Ethics, Business Ethics, Ethics in Biological Sciences, Ethics and Nanotechnology, Media Ethics, Environmental Ethics, Ethics in Sport and Exercise Science, Computing Ethics, Ethics in Dentistry, and Research Ethics. Research proposals in any of those areas are welcomed. The Centre’s staff also have interests in wider topics in moral psychology (esp. desire, emotion, and rationality) and virtue theory, ancient ethics (esp.
